About this blog

In Toronto, there is a nightly news magazine called T.O. Night aimed at the commuter crowd. One of the
features that it contains is a section called Shout Out where readers can send a short message, rant, note...
to someone, or to anyone...

I started sending Shout Outs to the woman that I am in love with. Not all of them are published in
T.O. Night - and once the magazine is tossed, so too is the shout out...

Here are most of the shout outs that I have submitted - and some of my other writings to
The Lady on the Train...

Morning Songbirds

Angel,

The mornings are still unseasonably cool but still and clear. The days are trying to warm up, though they do not fulfill the promise of the bright sunlight outside the office windows.  There is one noticeable difference lately in the pre-dawn darkness. Song birds have returned, following the geese that always arrive before they do. The songbirds sing out there shrill and warbled tunes, carried clear and loud through the crystal black morning. The 5 AM calls for a mate will waken those still slumbering in the back bedrooms, warm and drugged by drowsiness. The calls will pull them from dreams and it will take moments before they realize what has awoken them, rubbing their faces and wiping the sand of sleep from their eyes.

Some will become annoyed by the intrusion, angered at the loss of desired rest. Here, I know that in another life, another time, I would wake beside you - called from slumber and dreams by the sounds of a songbirds love, or lust. I would wake beside you and turn to see the pale moonlight angle across your white skin. And in the moment that the songs have invaded your dreams and your eyes flutter open, I would touch your shoulder as gentle as a breeze.  I would pull you to me, wrap you up in my arms, and as you lay in that world between sleep and wake, I would make slow gentle love to you - holding onto the warmth and dreams, letting the songs of birds weave in and out of our consciousness. We would drift through the morning, called by spring - and answered.

just me.

in case you were wondering...

In case you were wondering..

I love you like the first warm sunny day after a long cold winter.

The spirits and the hearts of the world are lifted at the promise of new life. Doors and windows are opened to let the seasons first stirrings whisper or blow through as they will. We let the sun kiss our bare skin as if for the first time and the breeze move the hairs on our arms and neck. And we remember. We remember what it like to allow ourselves to be just a little exposed to the rest of the world. .

You blow through me like that first warm breeze. And I will offer up my skin to be kissed by you. I will open my door and heart to you. And you will whisper and blow through me as you will.  I will expose my soul to you. These things I will do because you are the promise of a new life.

I love you for that.

just me.

dreams for you...

Angel,

I hope that you slept well. I hope that for a time your troubles were set aside and that your dreams were filled with the wonders that can only happen in our dreams.

While in peaceful slumber you rode the winds on the backs of eagles and were carried to where ever you wanted to go. In dreams you can walk across the burning savannah, leading a procession of animals - where the zebra walks beside the hyena and the lion strides beside the gazelle. The giraffes with there graceful necks glide above the smaller animals. And the elephant lumber slow like living boulders and raise their trunks to trumpet your victories . The eagle you ride dips and swoops and turns, circling over the animals as you lead them across the plains and deliver them to a mighty river. Here they drink and rest in the shade and lay down together in sleep. And in their sleep they will collectively dream of you. They will dream of your wonders.

Such is the type of dream that I wish for you - this and many others.

My dream is to be beside you as you sleep. To hold you and to watch you and to listen to your breathing. With such a wonder in my arms, I would need no other dreams - no wonder in dreams could compare. When you wake, I will listen to all of the adventures you had through the night. You tell me all that you did and all that you will do - and you smile that most radiant and beautiful smile that shines from your whole face.

beside you...
me.

There are times...

To The Lady on the Train,

I love you.
I am in love with you.

There are times that I am with you when I think to myself that had I the power, I would stop time. I would stop the earth from it's turning, the sun from moving in it's arc across the sky, and the stars from wheeling around.. I would freeze everything except for us. I would stop everything for a moment so that we could linger just a little longer.

These are times that that I tell myself  "Remember this moment" and when I say that to myself, those are the times when I wish that all would stop, melt away, and leave only us....

Then I realize - that is exactly what has happened...

Those times - nothing else exists but us - everything stops for a few moments... And in those few moments - I fall more in love with you - more than I ever thought possible.

The Man in the Station

Home...

To The Lady on the Train,

Home's where you are
It's in everything you do
Home's where you are
You're gonna find out that it's true
Home's where you are
In every song you play
Home's where you are
Even in what you can't say

The Man in the Station

charting landscapes...

To The Lady on the Train,
I know that you are the one that I want to spend the rest of my days with. You are the one that I want to spend the rest of my nights with.
Your face is the one I want to see as I drift off and it is the first thing that I want to see when I wake every morning.
I want to put my arms around you to hold you close as we sleep. I want to breathe you in and feel your hair against my cheek. We will talk about our day, work on a story, tell stories to each other. We will make each other laugh and cry.
And we will make love.
We will touch and caress each other. We will massage each other. We will explore each other and in so doing the territory that we explore is ultimately ourselves. Our terrain will have no boarders. There will be no fences, no roads. No gates. No guards.
The territories that we chart will be each other and ourselves. Know that we are wild and we are boundless. The maps we draw will not be framed or hemmed in. The secret maps that we draw will be as vast as the territories themselves.
In our explorations and charting - in all of our discoveries - we change the landscape. Maps will have to be redrawn, every time.
My Love, my Angel,
I want to explore and chart your every landscape, every river, every ocean. I want to place my footprints in your sand and to discover hidden valleys that no one has seen, where no one has been. I want to stand on the edge and look into some vast and uncharted territory or water - and not fear to go even further. I will leave my mark, but I will try do do no harm. I will touch as little as possible. I will treat these places with respect, reverence.
I want to find the places that have been damaged by others. If I find a poisoned river or if I find a track of land that has been clear cut - stripped of what made it beautiful and alive, I will try to heal it. I will plant saplings. I will sow seeds. I will lay down fresh soil. And I will dance for cleansing rain.
I want to explore these places with you - with your permission - with your guidance, at times. I want to be lost in your oceans, forests, and valleys. I want to climb your mountains and swim in your depths. I want to never have to leave. I will be as the wind sweeping across your landscapes and oceans - exploring and changing - and always there.
I dream of you. I dream of us.

Cold Spring Morning...

The sky is a clear expanse of dark blue velvet with a bright half moon punched through it. It is early spring and winter has not quite relinquished her hold on this part of the world. From my front window I can see the moon shadows of bare armed trees on the street. Even from here I know that the morning holds the quite steel cold air close.Stepping out from the yellow artificial light in the doorway to pass into the pale moonlight, I am surprised to find it even colder than I expected. My breath hangs in the air behind me as I walk through it. I am on my way to the trains and know that you are still peaceful in bed sleeping. I can imagine you with your head on white pillows, your curls resting, framing your face. I imagine your hand by your face, a loose fist, a soft curl of slender fingers - a sliver of this same moonlight across your white forearm... I imagine what it would be like to watch you in the morning, having the blessing to hear your breathing, feel the warm tangle of arms and legs and rumpled sheets... to watch you rise and to revel in the wild tangle and curl of your hair... to see the sleepy smile play across your face when you look at me... I would pay a ransom to have this honour to see your eyes flutter open every morning...

Through the day today I will work in my office while you will have the hum of rolling rubber on asphalt below you. I have measured the distance and the time that will separate us. There are times when such a separation would almost hurt, but today I feel light. My steps are buoyant as I head to the station... I am made happy by the knowledge that though the distance between us will grow, the true connection between us is not strained by it... it may be stretched, but any distance will bungee back to where we are close... As I go through the motions of my day, I will imagine you going through your day. Here is how I will keep you close - no matter the stretch of distance and time between us... Here is where I keep you - always.

I would keep you warm and safe.

I miss...

To The Lady on the Train,
I miss the feel of your hand in mine... the softness of your cheek, your chin in my palm...
I miss looking into your eyes and seeing an entire universe opening up... watching stars wheel and feel the long fall of everything else disappearing...
I miss the sound of your breath and to feel it on my shoulder... the soft sigh and the impossible simultaneous feel of strain and surrender...
I miss your freckled shoulders and the flow of your spine...
I miss the line of your jaw from your ear to chin... your delicate throat...

Distance

To The Lady on the Train,
I am so very glad that you are in my life. The trains accordion the distance between us: when they bring us closer I am grateful for them; when they pull us apart I curse them. You will read this as you pull away... So until the distance collapses, I will wait...
The Man in the Station

your beauty...

To the Lady on the Train,
I do not care who knows that I think that you are beautiful - even you. At times you may want to hide, but your beauty will not. I see you.
Always, The Man in the Station

in your eyes...

To The Lady on the Train,
Your chin in my palm, my thumb caressing your cheek... And here, in your eyes, I am lost... Yet here, in your eyes, I am found... You have my heart... Always... Come what may.
The Man in the Station

what love is...

To The Lady on the Train,
The sound of love is your laughter drifting across the room. The sight of love is your face turning toward me. The sound of love is your name on my tongue - whispered in the night.
The Man in the Station

winter flower...

To The Lady on the Train,

Such strength and frailty you possess.. like a delicate flower that grows through the snow... I am in awe of your contradictions...

The Man in the Station

Happy Anniversary

To The Lady on the Train,
On this, our journey, we have just begun... Many more to come... Come what may...
Love, The Man in the Station.

on Christmas day

To The Lady on the Train,
On Christmas day, my heart will be wrapped around thoughts of you, as it always is. May all of your Christmas wishes come true.

Angel

To The Lady on the Train,
You are an earth bound Angel, of that I am sure.
I am a better man for having you in my life.
Always...
The Man in the Station

this journey...

To The Lady on the Train,
I do not know where this journey is taking us - I only know that I am taking it with you. We will soon have some more changes, no doubt, as we continue to grow. Whether in the station or on the trains, you are with me...
Always...
The Man in the Station

a stupid poem...

To The Lady on the Train,
My umbrella I gave to you in case of rain.

And should you ever feel the cold,
Warmth within my arms I'll hold.

If in the dark, you feel fright,
beside you I'd stay through the night.

Food, clothes and jewelery for you I'd buy.
Your every desire I could not deny.

Of all that I am and I have to give,
should I have those years to re-live

You would know that from the start,
that what you stole was my heart.

The Man in the Station

holding my breath...

To The Lady on the Train,
Your beauty holds my breath...
The Man in the Station

my wish...

To The Lady on the Train,
My wish for you is that this life becomes all that you want it to...
The Man in the Station

good to you...

To The Lady on the Train
You should know that there is no such thing as 'too good to you'. You are deserving.
The Man in the Station

with my eyes...

To The Lady on the Train,
You do not recognize your own beauty... how your smile radiates... your graceful lines and arches... how just being close to you makes the rest of the world fall away... When you can see with my eyes you will finally understand...
The Man in the Station

If I could turn back time...

To The Lady on the Train,
If I could turn back the clock to that first day that I saw you I would. I would not have wasted all the time that I have. You would have known on that very first day that this man wants to know you... Even if I would have to wait as long as I did. You are worth waiting for.

To The Lady on the Train,
Falling in love with you has been the easiest thing I have ever done...
The Man in the Station

To The Lady on the Train,
I am not used to having someone who will listen to me, challenge me, ask questions... I am lucky and grateful that you are willing to do that for me.
The Man in the Station

To The Lady on the Train,
I hate it when we fight.
The Man in the Station

To The Lady on the Train,
Whenever you go to 'the bad place' or you are physically far from me, the bitter distance makes the closeness all the sweeter. This I try to remember in times like this.

To The Lady on the Train,
I don't know where we are going but as long as you are with me I am right where I should be.
